Simcoe Sub-Area Amendment, January 2012

The Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe includes an amendment that allows the County of Simcoe and the cities of Barrie and Orillia to grow, while curbing sprawl and continuing to protect green spaces and valuable farmland. The amendment is contained in Chapter 6 of the updated Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

The amendment, which came into effect on January 19, 2012, was developed after extensive consultations with Simcoe-area municipalities and community members, and benefited from advice from development and planning experts.

The amendment applies only to the County of Simcoe and the cities of Barrie and Orillia. The Growth Plan's policies from 2006 continue to apply to other municipalities in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
